Barrett Alosa: No. TVs usually do not pass the surround encoded audio from the input through to the digital audio output. The digital audio output on the TV will output surround sound for the TV's tuner but only pass through a stereo signal from any other inputs (including surround encoded inputs).To get surround sound from your cable box or PS3, you must go directly from the source device to the surround sound receiver.
