How to remodel a bathroom?

Jorge Gerrero: If you are going to remove walls with ele. ??? if you are going to frame new walls ???if you are going remove those yourself. ele and plmb. yourself. Yourself. If all removed ... and re framed ... Plumber first.... ( you should get specs. and sizing for fixtures). Actually you should get the specs and draw some plans first. If you are in a highly regulated area, the ele and plmb. will want to pull a permit. therefore you will need the building permit before they get theirs. All this can be very overwhelming, if you know nothing about the operations. I would suggest to get a reference to a plumber that others say will work with you and can Truly trust. Let him steer you. If he is trustworthy you can't go wrong. Listening to me explain the spectrum of operation no matter how many knowledgeable words I use, could never suffice with this project....Show more

Donella Vasta: i would start with the walls, since it is a bathroom you are going to have to have! moisture resistant sheet rock. the old sheet rock will have to be tore down . once the walls are bare i would call the plumber. since most bedrooms don't have water or drainage pipes this would be a good time to have him look at it and do what ever he has to do. then the electrical would be next if you want outlets in different spots, different lighting etc. since some of the walls will have holes in them from the plumber now is a good time to get all the wiring done. once these are done, i would put up your moisture resistant walls. texture them how ever you would like then do the flooring. once the flooring is in you can get your sink, toilet, etc. sounds like a fun job but might take while but i am sure it will be well worth it....Show more

Deangelo Marchak: You may not need to remove the ceiling and walls depending on the extent of your remodel. If there is an attic above the room now I wouldn't remove the ceiling at all. The walls will have to be opened but onl! y where things are being changed. That being said, to answer y! our question, plumbing and electrical can be done at the same time, both these trades will have to make 2 trips, one for rough in and another for trim out. Ceiling and walls next, then floor, baseboard, paint and electrician and plumber back to finish.I would also install any doors with the trim and after the floors are in....Show more

Eleni Mccier: After you gut it, I would start with plumbing, electrical, first. Then ceiling and walls, tub, flooring, painting, toilet and vanity. Make sure you use mold resistance wall board and mold resistance paint (Eggshell or Satin).

Dawn Saha: Where are you?My brother in law and I do remodeling in Indiana.Draw it up,where will the tub/shower be,the toilet and the vanity. Is there another bathroom adjacent to that bedroom?A gen.contractor may be better,I suggest Ask this old house.Tom Silva is a General Contractor that is very trustworthy(he is on a popular TV show).

Jonathon Labonne: you have it in the right order...! . tho, I think I'd do the ceiling before the walls.....
