When quoting a word from an article, do you put the period before or after the second quotation mark?

Jesusita Dykhoff: Punctuation always goes inside quotation marks.

Lynn Melbourne: after the second "quotation mark".

Phil Kuarez: American English places commas and periods inside the quotation almost all of the time, making exceptions only for parenthetical citation and cases in which the addition of a period or comma would create confusion, such as when quoting a keyboard entry or a web address.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quotation_mark#Punctu...

Branden Roddick: Important: where do you live?In the US it is always before. The period and the comma always go within the quotes, colon and semicolon are always outside, and the question mark and exclamation mark it depends on which is the intent of the author. In the UK and many other places, the period is always outside the quotes.

Carolin Southers: Always inside the quote marks.

Lue Podewils: The period would go inside the quotation marks unless you are sourcing the quote and then it would go a! fter. For example:"The imagery used is very gloomy, with words like "freezing" (Fox 25).

Felipa Nosis: Your quotation marks are a little confusing."The imagery used is very gloomy, with words like 'freezing'."orThe imagery used is very gloomy, with words like "freezing".If the whole sentence is in quotes, put the period inside the quotes. If only part of the sentence is in quotes, the period goes outside of the quotes....Show more

Logan Bero: before the second quotation.
