Rickey Vrieze: How many western European students do you think study at east Asian universities? Learning an East Asian language to a university standard takes many years. You need to start early in your teens, at the latest, and most US high schools do not offer those languages. Most commonly, they offer French, Spanish, and German. (Private schools offer more, but even they rarely offer Chinese and Japanese.) However, one of my college roommates (who grew up bilingual in English and Spanish) was a Chinese major, and she spent a year studying in China and also teaching English there. Bethanie Menden: Yes, I think any student who is financially capable of studying abroad should do it. The experience itself is an education and an eye opener.
An Cardine: P! eople don't like American government policies not its people. There would be no problem regarding safety. I am from India and I know this. People would like you. As for everything else, it will be a very good experience to study abroad as you will come close to different cultures as a student in a way which you may not get as a tourist. And as far as I know the fees are lesser in the entire east than in America. Even in UK though fees is high, its just three years. So no problems I can cite. Finally, it all gets down to that whether you find quality of education in foreign universities better than of American universities....Show more
Randal Deyarmond: My daughter is in college in the U.S. After watching the national news each evening, I would be hysterical if she studied abroad. There are so many countries out there that hate Americans. I would be worried for her safety! The U.S. Colleges are scary enough!
Ruby Martis: I think everyone should study abroad. As A! mericans (in general) we seem to have a sense that we are bett! er than any other country and many countries do dislike us for that and the fact that we are really naive about other countries and their cultures. I have been abroad once for a short period and am going again for a full semester in spring and would recommend it to anyone and everyone. It is a great experience that opens your eyes to the world and makes you a better person overall....Show more
