The garden could provide fresh vegies for your family and the compost pile can cut your trash down.-READ. Learn about alternative energy.-Buy less new stuff. Some things need to be bought new, but others like cloths and school books can be bought used. The gas that comes from cows is Methane. It's a type of natural gas like the stuff that makes your stove and furnace work. It's also similar to the gas at the bottom of a compost pile. Remember its a natural gas, but its just bad for the atmosphere. Methane gas can be used as fuel to power factories or anything. There is over 100 times more natural gas released into the atmosphere by miners, mining for coal and oil than by all the cows in the world. google it.Don't give up....Show more
Travis Sherrock: You and your parents could start! a compost pile. You dont need a special bin or anything. Just! pile it up somewhere in the backyard, out of the way. Corners work well. You can put all kinds of kitchen scraps in the compost pile except meat and dairy products. Also, you can put egg shells in the pile but not egg white/yolk. Thats all there is to it. The soil microbes do all the work. Starting a compost pile will decrease your household waste considerably and the organic matter from the kitchen scraps will add nutrients back to the soil. You can also put leaves and grass clippings in the pile. Turning it helps and covering it with a light layer of soil works well too. It will take a few months for rich, black organic matter to form on the bottom of the pile. Thats the stuff you put around your plants. The compost will make excellent organic fertilizer for the flower beds, trees and shrubs in your yard....Show more
