Why do most american college kids go for humanities when they know that science and engineering pay off later?

Felipa Nosis: It's possible that the humanities are where their interests lie. And there's nothing to say that a well qualified humanities student won't succeed, and make a good deal of cash once they graduate. In fact, the majority of jobs out there don't require science or engineering degrees. In fact, they are open to liberal arts students. For a liberal arts major, it's all in making sure their university is reputable, that their GPA is above a 3.0, and that they do some co-ops, internships, or something work related when they're in school. Kalyn Proietto: The notion that college is a great path to a profitable career is mostly the opinion of the previous generation. This generation doesn't think so much about what role they'd like to play in America; The real intellectuals are much more concerned with the state of America and the world. They want to make changes ! instead of slipping into a mold that's been prepared for them. They're following their personal interests, and getting away from their family for four years to try to define themselves. Money is something to be figured out later....Show more
